Richard Gray

Aug. 13, 1953-June 9, 2024

Richard Gray passed away on June 9, 2024, at the age of 70, or as he preferred to say, “17.” He was born in Spanish Fork, Utah, to James Richard Gray and Evelyn Staheli. 

He grew up in Enterprise, Utah, enjoying his time there and making lifelong friends. The family moved to St George, Utah, where he was a busy teenager. He earned his Eagle Scout Award while working hard to earn his first car. He graduated from Dixie High School. 

He then went on to graduate from Dixie College. He was always proud to be a “Rebe.”Richard married Connie Cannon and had their first child Stephonie. They moved to Salt Lake City, where he then attended the University of Utah. He earned degrees in political science, sociology and certifications in criminology. While attending college Richard began working in the construction industry. 

Richard went on to build a career in construction. He enjoyed the profession, working up to the position of superintendent, where he spent the majority of his career. He always enjoyed the challenges presented by the broad range of projects that he took on over the years, He especially enjoyed the close friendships that lasted the rest of their lives. 

They moved back to Hurricane, Utah, in later years. Where they had their second child Dason. Richard and Connie built a home in Hurricane, where Richard enjoyed his family and hobbies at home. 

Richard is survived by his wife Connie and two children Stephanie Whipple, married to Jeff Whipple, and Richard Dason Gray, married to Kristen Gray. They have eight grandchildren: Sierra, Shelby, Chase, Kolby, Logan, Savanna, Richard and Rylan. Also, three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Aya and Vivenna, who were the joy of his life. 

He is preceded in death by his parents James Richard Gray and Evelyn Gray. A graveside service will be held on June 17, 2024, at 9 a.m. at the Hurricane City Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the first responders for their help and kindness.
