Douglas Malin Cox

Oct. 4, 1944-Aug. 8, 2023

Douglas Malin Cox, 78, peacefully slipped away on Aug. 8, 2023, at Utah Valley Hospital with his family by his side. Douglas was born on Oct. 4, 1944, in St. George, Utah, to William Malin Cox and LaVerne Pickett. He was married and sealed to Linda Kay Staples on April 14, 1967, in the St George, Utah Temple.

Doug was the fifth of six kids, raised in St. George, Utah, and spent many summers helping on the family farm in Pine Valley, Utah. He graduated in 1962 from Dixie High School. He attended Dixie Junior College graduating in 1964 after obtaining an associate’s degree in business. He was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years in Australia.

After returning from his mission, he immediately returned to school at Weber State College where he met the love of his life and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and history in 1968. While using his degree in accounting he worked 38 years for various state agencies in Utah and Nevada, finally retiring in 2006. After retiring he continued with his love of family and history while creating and compiling stories about his ancestors from Pine Valley.

Doug and Linda were blessed with two sons and one daughter, who went on to marry and bring the 10 best blessinsg into his life. One of the biggest joys in Doug’s life was spending quality time with his grandkids. 

Doug is survived by his wife Linda; children Ray (Shantelle) Cox and Shannon (Dagoberto) Estrada; 10 grandchildren; and sisters Norlene DeSwan Flick, Dorothy DeSwan McMullin and Carma Rae Cox Maggard.

He was preceded in death by parents William Malin Cox, LaVerne Pickett, son Daniel Douglas Cox and sisters Christena Cox Wood and Renee DeSwan Brinegar.

There will be a visitation on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 So. Bluff St., St. George, Utah.

Graveside service will take place on Friday, Aug. 18, at noon, at the Pine Valley Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Doug’s online guest book.
