Maurine Roberts

Maurine Roberts, age 87, passed away on July 30, 2023. She was born on April 6, 1936, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Rowland Lavar Rigby and Mary Noel. She was married to Roy David Van Dam in 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, then divorced in 1969. Maurine then married La Mont Cundick in 1981, until his passing in 1990. She then married Lester Roberts in 1991, before his passing in 2009. 

Maurine was raised in Brigham City, Utah. She lived in West Salt Lake, Springdale, Moccasin, and La Verkin. Out of high school, Maurine attended business school, before starting her career as a bookkeeper for MJB Coffee and worked for the National Park Service. She worked at Zion National Park, Mount Rushmore and Pipe Spring National Monument, as well as the local grocery store. 

She has a passion for politics, country and conversation. She loved to quilt and crochet blankets. She loved to travel to many places with her sister Julia and cruise with family members. She will be greatly missed for her great sense of humor, sharp wit, and positive outlook.

Maurine also did some writing, with a particular memory for details. Above all, family was everything. Always sending cards for birthdays and Christmas, she loved family nights, playing a variety of card games.

She is survived by her two sons David Noel (Cindy Hawes), New Orleans, Louisiana, Marc Edward (Annette Stout, Divorced, and Edna Abarilla), La Verkin, Utah; grandchildren Robert, Joseph, Daniel, Sarah, Brian, Seth, Matt, Mike, Boyd, Nate, Jon, Joshua; 24 great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings Julia Braithwaite, Tucson, Arizona, Chuck (Elaine), Cave Junction, Oregon, Lavar (Lynette), St. George, Utah, and Marietta (Nick) St. George, Utah. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Rowland and Mary Rigby, sister Donna Askin, husband Roy Van Dam, husband La Monte Cundic, and husband Lester Roberts.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral services at 11:00 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 West 100 South, La Verkin, Utah. 

Interment will follow at the La Verkin City Cemetery, 580 North State St., La Verkin, Utah, for the dedicatory prayer. 

A luncheon will follow back at the church house at 1 p.m.
