On Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, William David Armour, Jr., loving husband and father of eight children, returned to his Heavenly Father. He was 85 years old.
Bill was born on Jan. 13, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Bud and Dorothy (Ogg) Armour. In 1960 he received his bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, where he also met his eternal companion, Nancy Ellen Mason. They were married on August 27, 1960, and moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, where Bill started his 25-year career with IBM. Together they raised three sons –Scott, David and Jon — and five daughters — Sherry, Debbie, Jenny, Beth and Rebecca.
Bill was a lifelong learner. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of California at Irvine in 1993 and loved to share his knowledge with others. He was a passionate and dedicated teacher, leading seminary for 13 years and providing wisdom and counsel to his eight children, 37 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Bill had a dry sense of humor and loved to smile and laugh.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Bud, his mother Dorothy and his daughter Debbie. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his brothers Bob and Jim and his seven other children.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb.22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 449 South 300 East, Saint George at 1 p.m. This service is preceded by a viewing at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
