Shirley Barber Webb, 88, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Feb. 12, 2023.
Shirley was born on Dec. 28, 1934, in Hurricane, Utah, to Frank Webb Barber and Doris Elizabeth Campbell. She married Clarence “Clair” Hammond Webb on Nov. 26, 1954.
Clair and Shirley raised their family in a little yellow house on 700 South in St. George. Shirley worked as a lunch lady at Dixie High School and Santa Clara Elementary School until she retired.
She loved baking homemade bread and Christmas candy and was known for serving her friends and loved ones by delivering her baked goods to them. In her later years, she felt bad she couldn’t bake for her loved ones anymore. She loved to sew and made over 100 memorial teddy bears for her family and friends throughout her life.
She loved to spend time playing with her grandkids and great-grandkids, watching Jazz ball games, sitting under her electric blanket and quilting. She also enjoyed desserts — she ate ice cream by the gallon and kept Nothing Bundt Cakes in business.
She is survived by her children: Michael (Holly) Webb of St. George, Utah; Janet (Wayne) Karns of Ivins, Utah; Trisha (Dave) Terry of Ivins, Utah; and Rachel Putnam of St. George, Utah; her sister Mary Alice Barber Fairbanks; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence (Clair) Hammond Webb; her parents Frank Webb Barber and Doris Elizabeth Campbell; her brothers Dean, Fred and Kenneth Barber; her son-in-law Matthew Harris Putnam; and her great-grandchildren Hudson Jay Terry and Kennedy Zola Terry.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at the St. George Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Shirley’s online guest book.
