Jack Eggen, 81, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022. He was born Dec. 20, 1940, in Salt Lake City to Henry and Thelma Threlkelv Eggen. He is currently married to Jackie Barkley Eggen. They were married on April 14, 2007, in Leeds.
Jack grew up on 11th East and 13th South, Salt Lake City. His sister used to pull him up and down that busy street in their wagon. Shirley said he was headstrong, stubborn and fun-loving. Their father taught all of his children at an early age about business and how to save money. Shirley and Jack used to pull their wagon selling Spudnuts (doughnuts), eggs and vegetables in their neighborhood. Jack and his dad started a fishing worm business so he could save money for his first car. Jack joined the Navy at age 17, one month before he turned 18. He was stationed on the East Coast on the USS Waddleigh.
After his service he married Linda Losser. They were the proud parents of four beautiful children. Jack loved being a dad. He enjoyed spending time with his kids teaching them to ride motorcycles, horses and play sports in the backyard. He also taught them to be hard workers.
Jack was proud that he went back to school and received his diploma from Granite High School in 1962. He also achieved a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. Jack was very organized which made him a highly sought-after superintendent. He worked all over the US for the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Jack started a business and employed his sons for many years. He ran that business until he retired in 2008. He named it Jack’s Heating and Air. Imagine that.
After his divorce he met and married Lonnie Davis and loved her very much. He cared for her during her battle with cancer. After she passed, Jack and his sister cared for their mother. Jack would go visit her every Sunday.
He was single again for a few years, then he met and married Jackie. They both retired and enjoyed traveling with their fifth-wheel trailer. They settled in a home in Washington where Jack built a shop. He spent many blissful hours building model ships, trains, and clever items out of stuff that other folks would have thrown away. He was very artistic.
He is survived by his wife Jackie; his children Brad Eggen (Nicole), New Castle; Wade Eggen, Orderville; Cori Church (Shawn), Encinitas, California; 14Grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister Shirley (Bill) Ward, Wenatchee, Washington; Brothers Robert Eggen, Clio, California and Rock Eggen, Denver, Colorado. He was also the stepdad to Susan (Rob) Tate, St. George; Laci Ann (Conley) Ward, Sitka, Alaska; Jim (Jessica) Carter Agoura Hills, California; Ron (Stacy), Carter Castaic, California; Tiffaney (Nick) Doling, St. George; 18 step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held for the family at Spilsbury Mortuary on Friday, April 29. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cypress, California, on May 12.
