Irineo Vazquez Gonzalez, age 76, passed away on March 22, 2022, at the Saint George Regional Hospital after a long battle with pneumonia due to COVID-19. Irineo was born on June 28, 1945, to his mother Balbina Gonzalez and his father Florentino Vazquez. His father unfortunately passed away early in his life, so Irineo was raised by his mother and stepfather.
Irineo met his wife Maria Ramirez at a very young age in the small town of Alpoyeca Guerrero in Mexico. They legally married on Oct 23, 1963, and later sealed their marriage through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 8, 2002. Together they raised 10 children, three of whom unfortunately passed away. Family always has been his main priority, so in the 1980s he decided to move to the U.S. for work so that he could provide a better life and future for his children and wife.
If you knew Irineo, you knew he was a person who always would put a big smile on your face with his humorous jokes and funny stories. Dedicating time to his agriculture work in the field was something he loved doing with passion and pride. He would always talk to you about how he loved growing crops of corn, fruits and vegetables for a living back when he was in Mexico.
Irineo is survived by his wife, seven children and 21 grandchildren. There will be a service for those who would like to say their last goodbyes to Irineo on April 1, 9 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 550 E 700 S. St., Saint George. Interment will take place in Tonaquint Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., Saint George, 435-673-2454. Friends and family are invited to sign Irineo’s online guest book.
